MOSS

Moss was our first release for Waiheke Whisky. Representing the culmination of a decade of distilling and learning the process of making single malt in NZ, we opted for a peated expression for this occasion. 

Reminiscent of a forest floor, Moss shows off New Zealand peat in its most gentle form. 

Restidad peat bogs, from the costal South Island are those characterised by plant species of the Restionaceae family and are most extensively developed in New Zealand. 

Low in lignin, a molecule responsible for smokiness of the peat, the flavours of the petard barley tend to be more gentle, forest floor and earthy rather than the iodine,  antiseptic and smoke of the Isla peats. 

 

The artwork was commissioned for Moss and will be released in the future as a limited edition boxing set.
