Cantankerous

We are huge geeks here at Waiheke Whisky, not just all things whisky, but cars, tech, music and we love our sci-fi. One of Mark's favourite authors was Iain Banks. He sadly passed in 2013, and with his death came the end of the Culture series. Widely regarded as one of the most imaginative and thoughtful glimpses into our future, the Culture, a post scarcity civilisation that examines our attitudes to AI, life and purpose in the universe, his books have never been more relevant.  

The author of Raw Spirit, one of the best whisky road trips written, Ian was fond of a dram, shared our love for land rovers and Porsches as well as whisky. 

Space x dedicated their drone ships to Ian Banks and in some small way, we dedicate this dram to Ian. He's had real spacecraft named after him, now a whisky. 

 

Cantankerous, a general contact unit was a AI mind run starship in the book " the State of the Art", and due to the tricky nature of this drams birth, it seemed a fitting name for many reasons. 

 

Iain, thanks for your incredible legacy to both whisky and literature.
